GNEMSDC 4th Quarterly Meeting 
We are very excited that our  4th Quarterly Meeting 
will be hosted by Roxbury Technology. The host will be sharing their inspiring success stories on how they developed their company. Additionally we have invited Wynn Resorts, Penn National Gaming and MGM Springfield to present upcoming opportunities for MBEs.  
Dr. Fred McKinney, GNEMSDC Board Chair and MBEIC Chair will update you about the council's service for the last quarter of the year and share next year's initiative. There will be a Holiday Business CardExchange following right after the meeting.

Fantastic 6th Annual Supplier Diversity Best Practices Forum
This past Thursday, we had a phenomenal Best Practices Forum at Fenway Park.  I want to thank all of the speakers, panelists, volunteers, sponsors and particularly the Boston Red Sox for allowing us once again to use the historic Fenway Park as our venue.  Marquis Miller of the NMSDC did an outstanding job describing not only the best practices in corporate suppler diversity, but describing what he called the "next practices".

Massachusetts Diversity Coalition Formed
The GNEMSDC, the Boston MBDA Business Center along with the Center for Women Enterprises, the Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce and others have created the Massachusetts Diversity Coalition.  These advocacy and business development organizations first came together to promote the utilization of MBEs, WBEs and VBEs in the gaming industry.  We have since expanded our focus to include all public and private sector developments.

 And Finally...
 Lately I have been obsessed with a quote from Aristotle:
"Excellence is never an accident.  It is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, and intelligent execution.  It represents the wise choice from many alternatives - Choice not chance determines your destiny.."
Is this not what we are all about or should be all about?  MBEs must be excellent.  Corporations must be excellent, and both must have high intention, sincere effort and intelligent execution.  I think it is without argument that without these ingredients, neither will be successful or sustainable. 
The quote goes on to bring up the importance of wise choices.  We are all human, so we sometimes make bad choices. Success requires we keep these to a minimum by engaging in the attempt to understand the environment that we seek to master and relying on our experiences and the experiences of others.  Science is the study of cause and effect.  Business is art and science. We must understand the science of business if we are to master the art of business. 
While we have all had our random good luck and bad luck, luck can never be the basis of a strategy.  It is choice that ultimately determines our destiny.  I believe this no matter what your circumstances. While you might not believe you have chosen where you are at this moment in time, it is undeniable, that you can choose to change things.  No one said it would easy - "life for me ain't been no crystal staircase" (Langston Hughes).  But through it all, excellence and the pursuit of excellence is what we must be about.  It will be excellence that will determine your success.  It is up to you to choose.
