FYI
And Finally...
Last week I covered a major change in the NMSDC network that will impact what were formerly called reciprocal MBEs.  As a result of those NMSDC changes, we now will offer any MBE certified by another regional affiliate of the NMSDC a set of services that provide value to them.  We will be communicating by email to these former reciprocals this week by mail and email.  But as I stated last week, this change is one of many significant changes in the NMSDC network.

Another major change is the number of regional affiliates of the NMSDC network.  As of January 1, 2014, there are 24 regional affiliates of the NMSDC. This is down from 36 in 2013.  This consolidation of regional affiliates has a goal of creating stronger, more sustainable affiliates with the capacity to better serve both corporate members and certified MBEs.  The GNEMSDC was spared any consolidation because we had effectively merged the CMSDC with the NEMSDC in 2009 to become the GNEMSDC.  So in many respects, we were ahead of the game.   The NMSDC hopes to learn from our successful integration of two affiliates into one affiliate. But knowing what I know about our experience, just rearranging regions does not guarantee success.  All of these changes will require dedicated work from staffs, boards, corporate members, MBEs and the NMSDC in order to make these strategic changes effective.

The regional councils that were impacted included the following changes:
  1. The Nevada Council was merged into the Northern California Council
  2. The San Diego Council was merged into the Arizona Council
  3. The Alabama and the Arkansas/Mississippi Councils were merged into the Louisiana Council
  4. The Saint Louis Council was merged into the Indiana Council
  5. All of the Ohio Councils were merged into one Ohio Council
  6. The Kentucky Council was merged into the Tennessee Council
  7. The two Pennsylvania Councils were merged into one Council covering all of PA, DE and Southern New Jersey
  8. The Kansas City Council was merged into the Denver Council
  9. The Wisconsin Council was merged into the Minnesota Council
  10. Northern Virginia was merged into the Washington DC/Maryland Council
  11. Several of the western states were merged into the Northwest Seattle based Council
  12. The Oklahoma Council was merged into the San Antonio based Council
There will be new names for all of these newly enlarged councils to reflect their greater geographic reach, so stay tuned.

MBEs in these new regional councils are welcome to participate in the GNEMSDC, not as reciprocals, but as subscribers.  MBEs from these new councils or any of our geographically unaffected councils will have access to our local corporate members as well as a host of services outlined in last week's newsletter.  If you are interested in participating with the GNEMSDC, contact, Jerilynn Clarke at 203-288-9744 or jclarke@gnemsdc.org.

Local and national corporate members from these regions are also welcome to participate in the GNEMSDC.  We are here to serve.

Next week I will address how the recent NMSDC changes are likely to impact our local corporate members and NMSDC members who are located in our region.  Again, stay tuned.
