Sikorsky is located in Stratford, CT.  Every time we have held a Quarterly Meeting at Sikorsky we have had a packed house of MBEs, corporate members and UTC procurement and supplier diversity professionals.  Sikorsky is a secure facility.  Every attendee must bring identification.  Foreign nationals are welcome, but need to bring a passport and contact the office.  There is no photography allowed on the Sikorsky campus.

This is an excellent opportunity for all of our MBEs to get critical business information about a great company that has provided millions of dollars of opportunity with certified MBEs.

New GNEMSDC Corporate Member  - Ocean Spray
OceanOn behalf of the GNEMSDC Board of Directors, I welcome the Ocean Spray as a new corporate member of the GNEMSDC.

Humble BeginningsOcean Spray was formed in 1930 by three cranberry growers with a simple love of cranberries. Led by lawyer and grower Marcus L. Urann, the three began coming up with new and innovative products made from cranberries. Since then, the Ocean Spray cooperative has grown to more than 600 grower families all across North America.

 A Tradition of Innovation The cooperative's first product was jellied cranberry sauce, followed by original Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail hitting the shelves in the early 1930s, beginning a long tradition of quality, innovation, and success. The rest, as they say, is history.
We look forward to working with Ocean Spray.

MBE Showcase - Rose International
Rose
This week we feature Rose International
Rose has five key attributes that as a whole are unique:

  • MBE and WBE Certifications- This benefits our customers by helping them achieve their ever-expanding diversity goals.
  • Corporate Plus Certification - The National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) gives this distinction to very few companies in the United States . It indicates to our customers and potential customers that Rose is a minority-owned company that is fully capable of handling large volume, national and international accounts.
  • Both a Government and Commercial Customer Base - Rose believes in working with both government and commercial customers, thus enabling us to share best practices between both markets.
  • Wholly Owned India Company with U.S. Ownership - Rose owns and operates a development facility in India , which allows us to provide cost-effective solutions to customers who request them. What makes our situation different from many others is that our India company is owned by the U.S. company, and our ownership is available to our customers as often as needed, instead of a management team out of the picture in India. This helps us ensure absolute quality and maximum use of time for customer projects.
  • SEI CMM Level 3 Certification - Our India facility is CMM certified, which ensures top quality offshore outsourcing.  View Presentation.

MBE Day at the Capitol - February 29
The GNEMSDC along with some other interested groups are organizing an MBE Day at the Capitol in Hartford of February 29, 2012.  The purpose of the day is to share a legislative agenda with elected members of the Connecticut General Assembly.  There are five items that the GNEMSDC has put forward and continues to view as positive changes in CT law that would promote not only MBE interests, but the economic interests of the State.
  1. Conduct a New Disparity Study to base a revision of the State of CT's MBE Goals;
  2. A separation of goals for WBEs as distinct from MBEs in the State's Set-Aside Goals;
  3. The elimination of the Municipal Exemption which exempts some State funded projects from the State's set-aside programs;
  4. The State's acceptance of the GNEMSDC certification as proof of MBE status; and
  5. The establishment of a Diverse Business Task Force that reports on progress with the achievement of minority and women  business development goals.
We will be sending out more information in coming days about how you can assist in this effort.
NMSDC NEWS
bnsdcKEY STRATEGIES AND LEADING PRACTICES FOR DEVELOPING SCALABLE MINORITY SUPPLIERS
Please note these seminars are open to both national and local corporate members of the NMSDC.

The 2012 NMSDC professional development seminars are designed to provide sourcing and supplier diversity professionals access to the most current and effective concepts in supplier diversity process management.
As the economy recovers, key stakeholders are embracing innovation, sustainability and value.  These realigned priorities require supplier diversity professionals to realign their priorities of the supplier diversity initiative.  It is no longer acceptable to just have a database of MBEs, but those MBEs must have the ability to perform on major contracts and deliver value to the organization.  In addition, sustainability has become a major component of corporate social responsibility and many supplier diversity initiatives are being tasked with integrating sustainability into the overall process.

 This year's theme, "Key Strategies and Leading Practices for Developing Scalable Minority Suppliers"focuses on best practices and lessons learned in cultivating scalable MBEs.  We will also discuss the burgeoning issue of integrating sustainability and supplier diversity.
This seminar is designed to provide owners of new supplier diversity initiatives the key tools and strategies required to implement a robust process in their organization.  This session will also provide stakeholders of mature programs some fresh approaches to advancing minority supplier development within their organizations and throughout the global marketplace.

 This interactive one-and-a-half-day seminar is designed to maximize participant interaction and provide insights on taking your initiative to the next level.  Regardless of your level of experience, if supplier diversity is important to your company or to your major customers, you cannot afford to miss this opportunity. Come and see why Ralph G. Moore is recognized as the leading practitioner in supplier diversity and why RGMA has been the primary training resource for NMSDC for the past twenty years.  Click Here to view the brochure.

And Finally...
Fred in ohio
"Life is one big road with lots of signs,
So when you riding through the ruts, don't you complicate your mind:
Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy! Don't bury your thoughts; put your vision to reality."

Singin': "Don't worry about a thing, worry about a thing, oh!
Every little thing gonna be all right. Don't worry!"
Singin': "Don't worry about a thing" - I won't worry!
"'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

"Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another; Inferior; Is finally; And permanently; Discredited; And abandoned; Everywhere is war -
Me say war."

"Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our minds.
Have no fear for atomic energy, "Cause none of them can stop the time"

"One Love! One Heart! Let's get together and feel all right.
Hear the children cryin' (One Love!); Hear the children cryin' (One Heart!),
Sayin': give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;
Sayin': let's get together and feel all right."

Happy Birthday Bob Marley.
