GNEMSDC  2012 Audited Financials
The GNEMSDC is a 501C-3 non-profit corporation.  As such, our financials are public information.  I am proud to share with our membership and our community our 2012 audited financials.  In summary, the GNEMSDC had its best year ever!  We were able to grow our top line revenue by over 25 percent compared to 2011. The GNEMSDC, with annual revenues of over $1.7 million is now one of the five largest Regional Councils in the NMSDC.   It was a combination of things that led to this performance including the increased support from corporate members and MBEs and grants.  But more important than the financial results included in the financial statements, are the activities of the GNEMSDC in 2012 that are not included in the report.  In 2012 we had over 70 events that had over 5,000 attendees.  This newsletter was read by over 250,000 people.  And I know from anecdotal evidence and MBDA reports, that MBEs and corporate members contracted with each other on millions of dollars of new business as a result of GNEMSDC activities.

On behalf of the GNEMSDC board of directors, I thank all of our stakeholders for another strong year. And we look forward to an even stronger 2013.

Our stakeholders can also view our IRS 990 report by visiting www.guidestar.org.  All 501C-3 organizations are required to submit 990 forms.  This is a good website for you to view any non-profit that your support.

And Finally...
Fred in ohio
News Flash!  Dr. Fred is going to jail!  Now before all of my not so close friends break out the celebratory champaign, I will only be in for a day and it is work related as opposed to felonious.  As a result of my editorial on the Connecticut Department of Corrections that was published last month in the CT Post and other papers and magazines, I have been invited to come to talk with to the Bridgeport Re-Entry Collaborative on Thursday, May 16.  The meetings of this group include community organizers, prison reform advocates, parole officials, and executives from the CT Department of Corrections. This meeting will take place at the Bridgeport Correctional Facility.  I have been asked to speak about the connection between the criminal justice system and economic opportunity in low-income communities.  I may be nuts, but I believe it is the lack of economic and entrepreneurial opportunity that leads to the recidivism and high incarceration rates which create negative economic feedback that further contribute to the wealth gap between minority and non-minority communities.  The Department of Corrections in my view should work even harder than other agencies of the state to contribute to economic empowerment by utilizing the services of minority firms.  This could lower the demand for prison services, which would be a good thing for all involved, including and most importantly, the taxpayers of the State.    Since my stay at the prison will hopefully be brief, I do not intent to add to the cost of this necessary but troubling enterprise.

In your service,

Dr. Fred
