2014 GNEMSDC Business Opportunity Conference and Expo
REGISTRATION IS OPEN!
The GNEMSDC Business Opportunity Conference and Expo is coming.  This year the event will take place on Tuesday, September 30 and Wednesday, October 1 at the Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort.  Please mark your calendar.  It is time for MBEs and corporate members to start preparing for the event.  One of the biggest attractions is the very successful One-on-One sessions.  These allow corporate members to schedule 10 minute appointments with specific MBEs for specific commodity/service opportunities.  This year we will once again employ some great technology that will allow us to efficiently make these matches between corporate members and MBEs.  We encourage all of our corporate members to participate in the Expo and the One-on-One program.  This year we have some very important editions to the program.  Stay tuned.  (Photo is of CT Governor Dannel Malloy with Dr. Fred at last year's Expo.)

One on One Business Match Makers on Wednesday, October 1
One of the most popular activities at the GNEMSDC Conference is the One-on-One sessions.  These are "demand" driven meetings between corporate and public sector buying organizations and certified MBEs.  We have automated this process with the assistance of Global Nest (dba Boothleads).

We are now using Globalnest's matchmaking software for registration. This software will allow small businesses to sign up for their prime contractor appointments during small business registration. This means that you will have a detailed list of your small business meeting schedule ahead of time. We expect this to make the day more efficient and productive for all.
To assist small businesses in determining the best fits for their prime contractor meetings, please make sure that you have completed your registration with a company description and a succinct, yet comprehensive list of procurement opportunities available. If you need to return to your registration page and review/update these items:
  • Visit http://www.matchleads.com
  • Sign up if you have not already signed using the email address:
  • Password should not contain the first 4 characters of your email address
After logging in, please complete your Contact Profile, Company Profile and Match Making Details completely. Please feel free to review the Match Making videos from the YouTube: Match Making Playlist

So far the following  companies have signed up for One-on-One meetings:

GNEMSDC "Shark Tank" at the Trade Expo September 30
expoBefore there was a "Shark Tank" program, the GNEMSDC had a "Speed Presentation" program as part of our Trade Expo.  This was one of the most popular and fun parts of the Expo, and for some inexplicable reason, we dropped it.  Well it is back for the 2014 GNEMSDC Trade Expo with a revised focus and structure.

This year on Tuesday, September 30 after the MBE Sponsors' Luncheon, we will feature a program that gives MBEs a chance to compete for $5,000 in cash that will be awarded to the best presentations on your "Value Proposition".  That's right; $5,000 in cash.  Here are the rules.  You must be a certified MBE or DBE or MBDA client.  You will have 5 minutes to state your value proposition.  A panel of senior procurement officers from the GNEMSDC corporate membership will make the call on who made the best value proposition presentations.

All interested MBEs, DBEs and MBDA clients, must be registered for the entire Expo and must contact Jennifer Little-Greer by email at jlittle-greer@gnemsdc.org to indicating your interest to participate in the program.  Space and time are limited.  So get your emails in early.

The goal here is not simply to have a good time.  The goal is to have MBEs work on presenting their value proposition concisely and effectively.   There will be no power point presentations or props allowed.  It is just you, your brain and your mouth.  If we are over subscribed we may contact all of the interested parties and hold a preliminary qualifying competition.  Get ready!

Congratulations to Bauza & Associates
bauzaBAUZA & ASSOCIATES JOINS WORLDWIDE PARTNERS, THE LARGEST NETWORK OF INDEPENDENT AGENCIES

(ENFIELD, CONN. USA)  Worldwide Partners, Inc., (WPI) has added another partner to the world's 8hlargest full-service ad agency network and the world's largest network of independent ad agencies, according to Al Moffatt, President and Chief Executive Officer of Worldwide Partners headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

Bauza & Associates, headquartered in Enfield, Conn., is a ten-person firm specializing in multicultural marketing and is headed by principal Hector Bauza. Founded in2003, the firm has a roster of clients including Connecticut Housing Finance Authority, Harvard Street Neighborhood Health Center of Dorchester, Mass. and St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors and Convention Bureau, Fla.

"What makes us attractive to clients worldwide is that we're comprised of innovative, progressive agencies across a full range of disciplines and industries," says Mr. Moffatt. "We're a collaborative, bottom-up network whereby the partner agencies own us rather than us owning them.  We provide the resources and the global outreach to help our partners achieve greater profits and revenue while the partner agencies work together to build each other's business and service clients locally, regionally and internationally.   We're an efficient, international network that is built to succeed in today's highly competitive and fragmented marketing environment. Each partner is hand-selected for its progressive and innovative approach.  In short, we have the critical mass and skills of the agency conglomerates coupled with the flexibility of the independents.  We're very happy to have Bauza & Associates join us," adds Moffatt.

CVS Health Formerly known as CVS Caremark
Join us  to celebrate an important milestone in the company's history as we change our name from CVS Caremark to become CVS Health. It is the continuation of the journey that began more than 50 years ago when the CVS brand first appeared in the marketplace. Now as a pharmacy innovation company at the forefront of a changing health care environment, we are delivering breakthrough products and services that enable people, businesses and communities to manage health in more affordable, effective ways. Our new corporate name reflects our expertise to drive this kind of innovation to help shape the future of health.

Here's what is not changing: our Values and our Purpose of helping people on their path to better health. Our stores will still be known as CVS/pharmacy, and patients will still see our MinuteClinic brand in our stores, though we'll refer to the business as CVS/minuteclinic. Earlier this year, our PBM communicated its new name to clients: CVS/caremark. Our specialty business unit is now known as CVS/specialty, and our Coram and Accordant businesses will keep their branded names.

Also, we're ending the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS/pharmacy stores one month earlier than we said we would. We are also launching our comprehensive and uniquely personalized smoking cessation campaign to help millions of Americans to quit smoking. You will see advertising on television and in major newspapers announcing our new CVS Health name and letting America know we are officially tobacco-free, the first national retail pharmacy to take this step.

Everyone has a reason to live tobacco-free. For CVS Health, our reason for quitting tobacco is to improve the health of our customers and our communities. The stories that you and our customers have shared since our announcement last February certainly have been inspiring. We're inviting you and all of America to again stand with us, as we launch a social campaign called #OneGoodReason. Your one good reason to live tobacco-free might be your children, your spouse, your parents, or a close friend whose life was affected by tobacco use.

This is an exciting time for our company. CVS Health will touch more than 100 million people each year, playing an active supportive role in each person's unique health experience and in the greater health care environment. We know that for our patients and customers, health is everything and CVS Health is changing the way health care is delivered to increase access, lower costs and improve the quality of care.
Harvard Professor Steven Rogers Back for GALP
We are pleased to announce the second year of the GNEMSDC Advanced Leadership Program (GALP).  The program consists of 5 full-day sessions led by outstanding business professors and writers.  The professors in this program represent the best executive educators in the world, and are from the top business schools in the world.  The GALP faculty includes, Steven Rogers (pictured on the left) of the Harvard Business School, David Hinson, former National Director of the MBDA.  Olav Sorensen of Yale School of Management, and Jeffrey Fox, best-selling author of "How to Become a Rainmaker" and other top selling business books.

At lunch during each day of the program, we will have corporate CEOs and other C-Level executives speak to the program participants.  Last year the CEO faculty included Anne Noble, President and CEO of the CT Lottery, Kevin Kelleher, President and CEO of Cartus, William Jennings, President and CEO of Bridgeport Hospital, Rodney Powell, President and COO of Yankee Gas, Carlton Highsmith, Retired Chairman of Specialized Packaging Group and Joseph Black, Chief Procurement Officer of Aetna.  The program begins on Friday October 17, 2014 and ending on Friday, November 14.

The program is geared to the owner/entrepreneurs of firms with $1 million in annual sales or more who are looking to significantly grow their business's top and bottom lines.  Participants will not only experience the wisdom of the assembled professors, participants will benefit greatly by learning from the other high powered MBE owners in attendance.  Space is limited to 25 MBEs. Think of the value of simply making the connections that being part of this program can do for your business; that alone is worth the investment of your time and resources.

Participants will receive a certificate signed by all professors in the program.  This will be a valuable reminder of the time invested in this innovative program.  Here is what Ron Williams, a participant last year had to say about his experience:

"As a participant of the Inaugural Session of GNEMSDC Advanced Leadership Program (GALP), who also attended (AMEP/Kellogg in 2005), I was most impressed with the program content, as well as, the presentations of several quality Speakers, such as Steven Rogers, who was a Professor instructing at my Kellogg session.
I would encourage any MBE Supplier who is able to attend this years' GALP to do so. Please let me know your impression of the program as well."
This year we are proud to have the generous support of the Fairfield County Community Foundation.  Call the office if you are interested in being participant in this MBE educational program.
 And Finally...
How should you prepare for the GNEMSDC Trade Expo?  If you are an MBE and are planning to attend, there are some things that you should be doing right now to maximize your effectiveness at the show.  One thing you should do is make sure your business cards are up-to-date.  We recently ordered new business cards to reflect our new logo.  If you have any significant changes in your business, they should be reflected in your business card.  Your business card is what you leave behind and it leaves an impression.  Secondly, you need to send to use this show as an opportunity to reconnect with your customers and prospects.  I strongly recommend that you send out a short note to your customers and prospects informing them that you will be attending the show and that you hope to see them there.  This does two things: it shows your customers and prospects that you are thoughtfully engaging them, and two it prepares you to expand your business with these customers and prospects.  A third thing that you should do is sharpen your elevator speech.  At the show, there will be plenty of energy and people running around.  You might only get one minute with a potential client, you should be prepared to share your value proposition with them, succinctly, professionally, and clearly. And finally, you need to be prepared to help others.  You have great gifts, skills and connections.  Sharing those gifts with no expectation of return, i.e. "paying it forward" is often the most effective way to achieve your own goals.  And finally, I would strongly encourage MBEs who are anticipating meeting with corporate members, to visit their websites, learn about these companies, and if possible REGISTER ON THEIR WEBSITES!  Two questions I can guarantee that you will hear at the show are: 'Are you certified' and 'Have you registered on our site'.  If you take care of these, you can get to real business faster and more effectively.

For corporate members, you too must prepare to make this investment in time and resources worthwhile. Like MBEs, be prepared by bringing plenty of business cards for yourself and perhaps even others from your company who might not be at the show, but you anticipate will be in great demand by MBEs.  It is frustrating to ask for a business card and be told, 'I'm all out'. Secondly, corporate members also need to be informed about real opportunities coming down the horizon.  This insight is valuable business information for MBEs and helps them to prepare to deploy their own resources in an effective way. Thirdly, this show is all about attitude.  Sometimes your company may not have an opportunity for a particular MBE, but you can always be helpful.

We have prepared a great show for all who plan on attending. I am looking forward to seeing you all. It's going to be GREAT!

In your service,

Dr. Fred
